GENERAL COSMETIC DENTISTRY:

Guilco Services

Everybody is welcome at Guilco Family Dental. We perform a number of General Dentistry procedures for children and adults. This includes restoring the natural dentition and educating our patients for them to maintain good oral hygiene. This will ensure patients to maintain a healthy dentition for the rest of their lives. We use high quality material with the latest technology to perform General dentistry. In addition to being anxious about going to the dentist, patients are generally concerned about the amount of radiation that they will receive in order to get dental x-rays. At Guilco Family Dental, we use digital x-rays. This means that the amount of radiation is minimal compared to conventional x-rays. The General Dentistry procedures that are performed at Guilco Family Dental are:

  • White Fillings
  • Crowns and Bridges
  • Porcelain Veneers
  • Chairside Veneers
  • Removable Full and Partial Dentures
  • A number of adult dental cleanings dependent on the patients needs

In addition to many more General Dentistry procedures. We also use different types of sedation techniques dependent on the patients needs.

Sedation Techniques:

The sedation techniques that are used at Guilco Family Dental include:

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
  • Oral sedation

Nitrous Oxide or as it is most commonly referred to "Laughing Gas," is a safe procedure that is an effective anxiolytic. This procedure involves administering a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide via a facemask. This is a safe procedure that is used on both adults and children. What is great about Nitrous Oxide is that a patient can drive themselves to the dental appointment and then drive themselves home because the effects only last as long as the facemask is on the patient.

Oral sedation is sometimes used in conjunction with Nitrous Oxide but it is usually enough to prescribe a patient anxiolytics prior to a dental appointment. However, when a patient is prescribed an anxiolytic, he or she needs to be driven to the appointment and later picked up. The effects of the medication are long lasting.

ENDODONTICS:

Dr. Rhona E. Guilarte performs posterior and anterior painless root canals and retreats in order to maintain teeth as opposed to losing decayed teeth.

A root canal is a procedure that involves the removal of unhealthy tissue within the tooth. The tooth is cleaned internally and filled in order to save a tooth as opposed to extracting it.

SURGICAL PROCEDURES:

We also remove a number of teeth that may need to be extracted including wisdom teeth extractions. Surgical procedures include:

  • Dental Implants
  • Bone Grafts
  • Crown lengthening
  • Extractions

In addition to many more surgical procedures.

Dental Implant

A dental implant is a surgical procedure that involves the placement of an implant within the bone that will be used to restore function in areas where teeth are missing. An implant can be used as a single crown, dental implant bridge, or an Overdenture.

A single crown implant is typically used in an area where one tooth is missing.

A dental implant bridge is typically used in an area where several teeth are missing. In this case a couple of implants can be used to restore function in areas where several teeth are missing by using the implant as pillars to crowns that are linked together.

An Overdenture is used when a patient does not have any teeth. A few implants are used in order to securely snap on to complete dentures. Overdentures is the only procedure in this category that is considered a removable dental appliance.

Bone Grafts

A bone graft is a surgical procedure that is used to create bone in an area. This procedure is usually done in conjunction with dental implants or extractions.

Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that is sometimes used in conjunction with root canals in order to save a tooth. This procedure creates enough visible tooth structure in order to be able to restore a tooth with a crown.

Extractions

Extractions can either be simple or surgically complicated. Wisdom teeth extractions are usually more complicated than other extractions.

Invisalign

Invisalign is an orthodontic procedure that uses a series of aligners (clear trays) that are changed every two weeks in order to align teeth without using metal brackets or wires. This procedure can fix crowding and close spaces.

Six Month Smile

Six Month Smile is an orthodontic procedure that uses white brackets and white wires in order to align teeth within six months. This procedure can fix crowding and close spaces in only six months.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are used to change the color and shape of teeth for aesthetic reasons. Porcelain veneers can give you the "Hollywood smile" that some people desire. The material that is used in porcelain veneers is a material that does not stain and is extremely durable. These veneers are custom made by our carefully chosen, award winning dental laboratory. This is a minimally invasive procedure that rarely involves the use of an anesthetic.

Chairside Veneers

Chairside veneers are an alternative, less expensive option to porcelain veneers. Once again, this is a procedure that is used to change the color and shape of teeth for aesthetic reasons. The difference between chairside veneers and porcelain veneers is that chairside veneers are fabricated and polished by the dentist. This procedure is a minimally invasive procedure that rarely involves the use of anesthetic.

Lumineers

Lumineers are used to change the color and shape of teeth for aesthetic reasons. Lumineers can give you the "Hollywood smile" that some people desire. The material that is used in Lumineers is a material that does not stain and is extremely durable. These veneers are custom made by our carefully chosen, award winning dental laboratory. This is a minimally invasive procedure that does not involve drilling the natural tooth structure nor the use of an anesthetic.

Porcelain Onlays and Inlays

Porcelain Onlay and Inlays are alternative, more durable options to very large white fillings. This is a procedure that involves removing decay (unhealthy tooth structure) and taking final impressions. As opposed to white fillings, porcelain onlay and inlays are custom made by the laboratory. The material used in these procedures does not stain and is extremely durable.

Porcelain Crowns and Bridges

Porcelain crowns (caps) are used to restore single teeth that are either cracked or heavily decayed. Porcelain bridges are a permanent way to restore the functionality in the areas where a patient is missing teeth. Existing teeth are used as pillars to create crowns (caps) that are linked in order to obliterate the appearance of missing teeth.

One Hour Zoom Whitening

Zoom whitening is a patented type of whitening that whitens your teeth in four fifteen minute sessions. This involved the use of a special light and gel that is done in the dental office under professional supervision. This procedure dramatically whitens teeth and can whiten teeth up to four shades in one visit. Zoom whitening is an aesthetic procedure that is done after the patient is free of decay and is up to date with dental cleanings.

Whitening Trays

Whitening Trays is an alternative treatment to the Zoom whitening. This procedure is sometimes used in conjunction with Zoom whitening in order to maintain the desired color of teeth. This procedure involves the use of impressions to custom fabricate trays. It is absolutely necessary to have a custom fabricated tray in order to obtain the desired results. If the trays fit properly, the gel that is used to whitened teeth can stay in its appropriate place.

Botox

Botox is a purified protein that is approved by the FDA. It is injected into targeted muscles to temporarily reduce the contraction of the muscles. Botox injections are a procedure that only takes a couple of minutes and will remain effective for three to six months.

1) Treatments and therapies for facial pain, TMJ syndrome and headaches:

Patients associate Botox with removal of wrinkles, which is only a cosmetic procedure. However, Botox can also be used to reduce facial pain, TMJ syndrome and headaches. It basically relaxes the muscle for about three to six months. This relaxes the muscles that are contracted and therefore cause pain. This is a minimally invasive procedure.

2) Cosmetic Use for Botox:

Botox is mostly known for its aesthetic use. It is a chemical that is administered in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles for about three to six months. This is a minimally invasive procedure. It reduces the appearance of:

  • Moderate to severe "crows feet" lines
  • Moderate to severe "frown" lines
  • Moderate to severe "worry" lines
  • Moderate to severe "water bottle" lines around the lips and many more...

Dermal Fillers

As the skin ages, it begins to lose collagen. Collagen is filled with hyaloronic acid (HA). Both collagen and HA hold the structure and volume of the face. The lose of collagen and HA causes the appearance of wrinkles and skin that sags.

Dermal fillers are gels made from the naturally occurring HA. Dermal fillers add volume in areas of the face to eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and skin that sags.

The administration of dermal fillers is a newer type of procedure that is minimally invasive that can also be used to plump up or increase the volume of lips. This procedure is very natural looking as opposed to older surgical procedures that were used in the past.

The procedure involves injecting certain sites of the face that require volume. In one appointment, you can immediately see an aesthetic difference that will last up to six months.

The dermal fillers that we use are JUVEDERM ULTRA, JUVEDERM ULTRA PLUS XC, and RESTYLANE.
